The real deal!
Original unissued Field Dress Jackets, issued as a mid-weight unlined jacket for members of the South African Defence Force in the distinctive South African Nutria Brown. These jackets are available in different variations, but generally all feature four large covered buttoned pockets, cut in a battle dress uniform style. This makes the uniform extremely utilitarian, and great as a standalone or a layer in temperate conditions.
Available in two variations, there are two different "generations" of these Field Dress Jackets. The 1st Pattern is dated from the early 1970s until approximately 1984. These uniforms feature slightly large pockets (averaging 0.5 to 1 inches), and external cinching strings similar to the heavier lined bush jacket.
After 1984, it appears that the South Africans adapted it into the 2nd Pattern. This uniform has slightly smaller pockets, and internal cinching straps that are elasticated and secured by a button. Most date from the 1990s onwards, but a small number date from the 1980s.
