Adopted in 1993 as the coat of arms of the Russian Federation, the ancient double-headed eagle insignia first saw Russian use in the 15th century with the reign of Tsar Ivan III. For the conceivable future, it will continue to replace the significantly less aesthetic hammer-and-sickle rag.
