A top notch piece of kit, far sturdier than most commercially available or surplus plastic canteens!
First issued as part of the Pattern 1982 webbing system as the "Pattern 2" or "Mk. 2" canteen as a replacement to the earlier steel canteens issued as part of the Pattern 1964 webbing in the Canadian system,, this canteen continues to be used today by the Canadian Armed Forces. There's a reason these tough canteens have been utilized without pause since the days of the old "olive drab army" of the Cold War, to the CADPAT army of Afghanistan.
Constructed a hefty polymer construction, the canteen cap latch is noticably thicker than many commercially available canteens we've seen giving. Despite some evidence of wear and tear, the latches and caps are going strong. Additionally, the canteen features a CBRN mouthpiece intended for a C4 Gas Mask straw to hook up to, allowing the operator to use the craziest of crazy straws even during a nerve gas attack (theoretically, don't try it out yourself please!). The mouthpiece is covered by a plastic mouthpiece cover that snaps into place securely, and the cap itself has a rubber stop to prevent leakage regardless of climate.
These canteens are sold by the year, and all have evidence of use as Grade 1 canteens, but are still very sanitary and safe to drink out of. There's lots of life left in these things!
Please note Grade 2 marked canteens will have a damaged knob at the end of the CBRN mouthpiece cover. This knob latches onto the end of the CBRN mouthpiece cover, but the cover itself, the canteen cap, and the canteen itself is still fully serviceable!
